On Saturday, fire out the rear basement of a three-decker in east Boston went to the attic and exposures, prompting the chiefs to strike four alarms. The homes on Princeton Street sit relatively close to one another.

“The call came in at about 3 p.m. for a three-decker on Princeton Street. The first arriving firefighters quickly struck a second, then a third alarm, calling for additional trucks and personnel. About 20 minutes later, firefighters said they feared a third house might be at risk, so they called for a fourth alarm response.

In an interview at the scene, Boston Fire Department District 1 Fire Chief Ken O’Donnell said the fire originated in the basement of the first house, broke through a window, and aggressively climbed up the rear of the building before spreading to the second home, about 5 feet away.”
